LIBERTON and Braids United led the way for the Lothians in the South Regional Final of the Belhaven Best Captains & Secretaries Championship amid searing temperatures at Broomieknowe.
Both Capital clubs posted four-under-par 66s to book their final spots, whilst Portobello clinched a berth as well on 67, pipping the host club on countback.

Iain McCallum and John Masterton represented Liberton, while Braids United had Scott Neill and Wilf Mitchell in their line up.

Flying the flag for Portobello were Scott Forrest and Jimmy Burns, with Jim Donaldson and Robert Beattie in the Broomieknowe team that just missed out.

Crichton, represented by Brian Oakes and Lee Sterritt, were the winners, firing a championship record-equalling nine-under-par 61 as they finished four shots clear of the field.

Their score included an amazing run of seven consecutive 3s in the four-ball better-ball format, in a round that began with a birdie 2 for captain Oakes.

The 2009 Belhaven Best Captains & Secretaries Final takes place on Tuesday, 22 September, at Glenbervie.
