ANDY Murray's Wimbledon dream was shattered as he lost in four sets to Andy Roddick in the semi-finals.
The British number one and tournament third seed was beaten 6-4 4-6 7-6 (9/7) 7-6 (7/5) by the big-serving American.

Roddick goes on to face Roger Federer in Sunday's final.

Murray said: "You always expect your opponents to play well at this stage of the tournament.

"I had a few chances in the first tie-break and chances early in the third set and I didn't take them.

"I thought I played well.

"He served really, really well.

"Hitting at that pace at such a high percentage, sometimes there's not a whole lot you can do."

As one of the very few world Class Scottish and or British Sportspersons he should still hold his head high and look forward to making more progress.

There was a lot of pressure on such a young man.

The service game of Roddick was truly amazing.

Well done Andy. You have gained many more supporters this year and won over the ever fickle Wimbledon crowd.

A nail biter of a match... shame that Andy Murray went out but credit where its due, Andy Roddick played very well. Maybe the US Open will be Andy M's tournament.

Think the Fed will win this Wimbledon tho'.

Andy Murrays dream was shattered?MMMM A matter of opinion I would say!

I would say it was put on hold!

He will be back, older wiser, more mature, and ready!

It asks a lot to lift this title at the first attempt.
There is no doubt in my mind that lift it he will and soon!

The last time I enthused about a young Scottish sportsman this much was Stephen Hendry!

He did quite well I recall.

I suspect we are looking at another potential world No 1 and sooner rather than later!

Well done the Dunblane Dynamo.

The world has taken notice !

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
Now he's back to being Scots Andy again and the Queen gets to go to Balmoral.
Although I'm not so sure about the playoff beard he was sporting.
That clearly needs a little work.

Why do tennis players always crash out according to the Sun, the Mirror, and now the Scotsman? I believe he reached the semi at Wimbledon, and lost in two tie breaks. Hardly crashing out....

I suspect the Negativesman has been hoping that Murray would 'crash out' earlier so that they could emphasise the negativity more strongly.

Neil Waugh

what a bitter and twisted little man you are.

Andy was referred to as a Scot throughout this tournament in press, radio and television.

Everytime you comment your inferiority complex and paranoia is plain to see.

But if it makes you feel better about yourself, then thats a good thing.

Well done Andy! You have done yourself proud and the country.

Andy Murray (and his mum for that matter) have stated thet his best chance of a grand slam title is on the hard courts of the US or Australian opens as these are more suited to his game.

On grass, (even though the the technology of tennis balls and the surface have been changed to nullify the effect to an extent) there is always the possibility that a big server like Roddick on his day would be difficult to cope with and so it proved.

He has improved substantially in the past year or so and (barring injury) he should be in the running for one of these events for some time to come.

Roddick is definitely improving. Don't be surprised if he beats Nadal.
