Glasgow East by-election: Cyberwar as blogger targets Sturgeon

THE struggle to win the Glasgow East by-election has been turned into a cyberwar between some of Scotland's most ardent bloggers after one targeted Nicola Sturgeon, the Deputy First Minister.
Kezia Dugdale, who works for Labour MSP Lord George Foulkes, alleged on her Soap Box blog that Ms Sturgeon was kicked out of a shopping centre while campaigning for the SNP. Nobody has backed up the claim and Ms Dugdale received an e-mail from Ms Sturgeon demanding she remove the blog.

But when Ms Dugdale refused and claimed she could stand the story up, it provoked a series of counter blogs, with the SNP apparently briefing its supporters to go on the attack. But one blogger, writing at SNPtacticalvoting.blogspot.com and known to be sympathetic, changed his mind and decided Ms Dugdale might be correct.

Ms Dugdale said: "I can't believe the SNP have devoted so much time taking on my blog. We've got a C difficile crisis in our hospitals. As health secretary, shouldn't Ms Sturgeon be sorting that out?"

I know this Kezia Dugdale and have had words with her on these forums about her lies regarding the present handling of clostridium difficile. She is completely wrong with her utterings, won't have one fact to show for it other than a newspaper report and really she ought to lay off the subject until she has at least done some real investigation.

Good campaigning for your party is truth and honesty and she meets neither.

Now here is something for Kezia Dugdale.

A blogger can be sued for libel. Yes, this means you too, Kezia.

By the way, even if the servers you use are based in the USA, British case law says that doesn't matter. You are still subject to UK libel laws and UK election laws.

My advice, Kezia? Do NOT ask a Labour Party hack for legal advice. As an independent solicitor.

It states here she 'works' for George Foulkes. Now I know Georgie boy from old, so what does Kezia do with her time?
I notice that she is critical of Nicola Sturgeon about the C difficile outbreak that occured at the Vale of Leven, perhaps she needs reminding that it was under the previous Labour administrations watch that enouraged cleaning contracts to be outsourced and as a result hospital cleaning was cut back. But we dont want facts to get in the way do we!

This is typical of the SNP and we knew this anyway that the SNp were being told to pot to internet message boards. It's no surprise since generally a handful hammer Newspaper message boards such as this with many ID's to make themselves look like a multitude. Same small number then gang up and attack anyone who doesn't agree with them and attempt to run them off. Don't underestimate these clowns and what levels they will sink to.

I hope Nicola Sturgeon is reading this too. There’s something I’ve been meaning to ask her.

A recent YouGov/Telegraph poll suggested that 40% of people might like Scotland to be a separate member of the European Union.

Nicola Sturgeon then said: “The poll shows that two-thirds of Scots want Scotland to become an independent member of the European Union”.

So, the percentage had been exaggerated, and of course, independence wasn’t mentioned in the actual question. The poll had asked a separate question about that and had found significantly lower support.

Why was this false statement made? Why was it circulated? It was even published in the Dundee Courier before it disappeared from the SNP website.

1. Dougie. This is all part of the SNP's former letter-writing campaign. Now a handful of Nats post to newspaper boards but use many ID's often agreeing with themselves. They have taken over some newspaper boards such as the Herald where they attempt to dominate every single conversation even when it's got nothing to do with the Nats or even politics. It's a complete joke.

9 AM2, Yes good point! If all the SNP can claim is that 1/3rd of Scots would back their idea of Independence after a whole year in 'government' then that speaks absolute volumes about them.

Mind you it was no more ridiculous than the Yougov poll which was NOT taken in Glasgow East but was discussed as though it was by STV and Mr. Ponsonby, and of course the SNP, in a news story that made Salmond look triumphant! Interesting to note that the first real poll taken there (ICM) which favoured Labour was only briefly mentioned by STV. Questions should be asked, as to such polls and how they are presented by broadcasters like the BBC.

How about it AM Squared? What have you got to say about Curran's meeting with an alleged 97 year old war veteran? No comment about an MP who claimed £500,000 from the taxpayer for using his front room as an office? No comment about Curran's voting record (see #6 above)? What about her role her role in scrapping guaranteed fire service response times?

If it is will be an issue not because of the facts but because of attempted denial and first public indication that the Cybernates are being centrally co-ordinated.

indeed Lord Foulkes is a disgrace of a list MSP, who devouts most of his time to blogs and inventing silly attacks on the SNP.

Last week he was questioning Alex Salmond's carbon footprint in relation to travel, just after Gordon Brown hired a private plane at cost of over £500,000 which had to fly empty from Texas to take him to the G8.

He also regularly bleats on about expenses, thinking we are too stupid to notice that he took over £150,000 from House of Lords "expenses" and charges the tax-payer £40,000 for overnight accomodation to stay in a house he owns.

The parallel with the £5000 claim is obvious. But that claim was at least accompanied by a slogan which read “Break up Britain. End up broke", thereby signalling that the context was an independent Scotland, not an devolved SNP executive.

As far as I can see, there is no such context in the SNP election leaflet.

In essence, on this thread, you seem to be complaining that the party you least like is getting organised, co-ordinated and getting decent support from members.

Is this something you want to see abolished? Perhaps only for the SNP?

Is it that the SNP members have embraced more quickly, a way to spread their views and the other parties have been a little slower to realise the power of the internet?

Is it that the traditional parties (labour and tories) have been 'found out' since they simply cannot control the internet like they controlled all other outlets over the previous years?

Is it the Internet is the place where truths and debate can take place without censorship? Is the 'gloves off' approach uncomfortable to those who previously controlled the flow and content of news?

my own view (FWIW) is that the internet is a medium that the traditional parties of Labour and Conservative simply cannot fully control and they 'don't like it up them'.

Hence, if they cannot control the flow and content of information, they attack it... in this instance its a 'shoot the messenger' type of tirade which in my view doesn't address any issues at all and won't win them any votes.

I have made no secret of the fact that I have a “Toryish” disposition on certain key issues. But that doesn't amount to party alignment. Nowhere near.

The unionist supporters on this site are spending a lot of time doing exactly what they accuse SNP supporters of doing.They have certainly managed to distract to the extent that the issue is buried.

I have no idea whether Nicola Sturgeon was asked to discontinue an interview with the BBC in a shopping centre or not.Even if true it hardly matches the antics of some of our politicians,such as telling lies and claiming excessive expenses etc.I'm starting to really believe now that the SNP must be very close to Labour in Glasgow East,since the amount of personal abuse of SNP politicians and their suppporters is increasing.This is encouraging because I have noticed over the years that there is a close correlation between the degree of SNP momentum and the degree of abuse that their supporters recieve.It is as more reliable than an opinion poll.

hmmmm, it is interesting but I cannot help but feel that the SNP will not take this seat.

I also feel there is a danger in getting 'cocky' over the result.

A win for labour at a hugely reduced majority would be just as damagaing a result to Labour as could be imagined - after all it is one of the safest seats in Scotland.

A win for the SNP, well it *would* be fantastic, but perhaps just too big a mountian to climb.

I'll put my rep on the line and say -

A labour win with a majority of under 1000.

I also hold no party affiliation nor do I belong to any cybernat organisation.

I am just an individual who while working and often while on hold on the phone post on the comments section of the Scotsman(only) my true and heart felt opinion. Mine and mine alone.

My friends and family do not like politics and as such I seek discussion where I can find it.

In fact at the last 3 general elections for Westminster I voted Labour and for Holyrood I voted SNP.

Now however I have decided that I can no longer vote Labour any more than I could vote Tory. They represent politics of a past. I am not in secret contact with any member of this forum.

I note the independence supporters seem to be more independently minded with varying positions across different issues.

In comparison to Highland Sh1tey, AM2, SNP Hypocracy, etc, etc who seem to be mirrors of the exact same point of view and agree with themselves as if they are one.

I would back up this opinion with the number of people I have heard make pro-independence statements.

The internet has allowed people to regain depth of feeling across the country without the politically controlled media like the Scotsman puting there own spin on it. Telling people who support independence they are bigots, small minded, facists, nazi's etc, etc.

It indicates very clearly that you consider people who aren’t “natural-born” Scots to be somehow less credible, less entitled to a stake in the political process.

That fits with something you once said about another poster: “I wouldn't pay too much heed to Pete from Paisley. He is obviously English.”

Despite the fact that people born in England, Wales or N.Ireland comprise about 10% of the population of Scotland, you speak of such people as “foreigners” and refer to them as “interfering in Scotland”.

You have even told me to “go back to Ireland”. This is clearly more than a governance issue for you. It’s racial.

You positively demonise the English, calling them “neighbours from hell” and referring to Scotland being oppressed by the “jackboot of English colonialism”. You have accused them of “raping and pillaging” Scotland.

You have said that there is “no good reason to try and keep on their good side” and that “we actually need an ASBO against them, in the form of independence”.

Any right-thinking person can see such extreme views for what they are.

Interesting to see Salmond refute claims that a Scottish Labour loss to the SNP on 24 July would mean Brown departing No.10.

Why would he say that? To placate those considering on voting for his party (but who don't want to see the break up of The Union, perhaps?)

A protest vote against Scottish Labour will see unprecedented presure put on Brown, into a general elction he can't win.

Well, not quite. The result would be a Conservative government, used by the Scorning Nasty Party as anti-Scottish.

Edward 4 ....I see once again you are suffering with short term memory loss ..the Out sourcing of Hospital Cleaning was from the Tory Government before Devolution ....and as for Ms SAturgeon she failed to make sure all the Latest Infection stanards were not put in place was this because the advice came from south of the Border ? infection and the causes have no borders but the under Ms Strugeon watch people have died because of her lack of force in this area ..and as for suing ...Why has Ms Sturgeon not started proceedings ?

Sorry for all the spelling errors but this total lack of memory on part of some of the natz supporters gets on my wick ..Alex Salmond seems to have a lot of free time on his hands that he can attend this run up to the by election 10 times ..why is that ? as far as the SNP are concerned things are in an awful way here in Scotland ..you would think the FM wouldnt have the time to spare or are we seeing the truth here ..That Scotland is and has been doing quite well for sometime ...it must be otherwise the FM would be too busy getting this Broken down Country ( according to the SNP )back on its feet .. also the East End have made clear that they are fed up listening to all the mince about how the East End is in dire straits..The East End is doing better in the last 10yrs than it ever was ..there are still pockets of the area that have to be sorted but it is not all doom and gloom which would have been made Worse if the SNP leadership had their way and stopped the relocation of SportScotland to the area ...funny how Sturgeon or Mason did and said nothing when their Grate Leader came out with that one ..but The Opposition Parties stopped that attempt by the SNP ...and that will not be forgotten by the East End of Glasgow ..
