WHETHER your budget is Portofino or Portobello, a day at the beach can still be fun. Bucket and spade in hand, money for ice-cream, and family and friends around you, it's definitely old-school excitement.
Despite wind and water threatening to play havoc with your look, the beach can also provide beauty inspiration. So bag a deck chair and be a seaside sophisticat.

To give faces a lift, the new Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask (£10, Body Shop) is perfect. It
has seaweed to balance the skin, and clay to draw out dirt and impurities, plus it has marine mud in it too. Liz Earle and Eve Lom do fantastic versions too.

To create a flawless base, Revlon ColorStay Makeup with SoftFlex in Sand Beige (£11.99, Boots) is oil-free, and created for normal to dry skin, giving full, but weightless coverage, with an SPF15. Or there's L'Oreal True Match Minerals in Golden Sand (£13.99, Boots), also with SPF15, and infused with mineral pigments to give a flawless, but natural finish. To cover pesky spots, go for Rimmel Hide The Blemish (£3.69, Superdrug) – its soft sand shade blends easily to leave skin looking nice and smooth.

For eyes that sparkle, try Elizabeth Arden Colour Intrigue Gel Eyeliner (£16, Boots). A silver and blue duo, it will make eyes shimmer like the sea. Or go for Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow in shimmery peach-like Golden Sand (£5.99, Boots). Jemma Kidd Iridescent Eye Silk Crayon in the dazzling blue 'Ocean' (£10, Boots) is a cream silk shadow that will smudge if you want, but also stay put.

For a healthy flush, Jemma Kidd Tailored Colour Powder Blush Duo in Desert Sand or Plum (£13, Boots) is a pretty pair of shades, one for day, one for night, or to blend together for an individual shade. For a sweet treat, Jemma Kidd Shimmer Intense Silk Lipgloss in candyfloss pink (£9.50, Boots) is a real girly shade.
