There are reports of over 28 major fires across California, which is experiencing a historic heatwave with 14,000 firefighters battling the blazes.
Wednesday saw strong winds blow smoke and ash from the northern parts of the state resulting in residents of San Francisco area waking up to dark skies making some think it was still night time.
In California, this year wildfires have burned more than 2.5 million acres. As fires continue to burn, forecasters expect similar conditions in the coming days.
