Rocking robin
THE nation has spoken (or possibly tweeted): we now know that the UK’s unofficial official bird has a red breast.
At least on this issue we have a truly decisive outcome, as my plucky namesake romped home with a handsome 34 per cent of votes cast.
There can be no reason for ornithological outcry from either barn owl (12 per cent) or blackbird (11 per cent), though given a closer race they might well have sought another plebiscite within a generation.
As to future methods of polling, I understand the owl will call for the single transferable vole.
