In 2002 the law changed in Scotland, allowing people to get married anywhere. Since then, the registrars in Argyll and Bute have seen an influx of people tying the knot in a variety of beautiful locations across the area.
Argyll and Bute Council’s policy lead for corporate services, Councillor Rory Colville, said: “We have some stunning scenery and ceremonies have been held in a huge range of locations, from beaches and castles to the more intimate surroundings of the couple’s home or garden.

Hide Ad“Being a registrar isn’t a 9-5 job and they will do whatever it takes to try and make a couple’s wedding the special day they dreamed of. They can also help with other important family events such as naming ceremonies and re-dedication of marriage vows.”
There are a range of different ceremonies to inspire you as you create a special day you will never forget. These range from the Celtic custom of Hand-Fasting, to a traditional Scottish Quaich ceremony, or even the Pinning of the Tartan.
