Scottish retail takings falter
The latest snapshot from the Scottish Retail Consortium (SRC) and KPMG revealed total sales fell by 1.2 per cent in October, compared with a year earlier. Food sales suffered a sharp decline, while the non-food category was largely flat.
SRC director David Lonsdale said: “The total value of retail sales edged down again in October, but at a far more modest rate than in the previous month. Looking forward, retailers will be heartened growth in average pay is now outstripping inflation for the first time in five years.” Clothing sales were said to be “sluggish”.
