10 things to do in Scotland this week
Music: Mudhoney / Meat Puppets
ABC, Glasgow
Wed 5 Jun, 7pm, £16; more info
Some band called Nirvana may have taken most of the grunge glory back in the early 1990s but their Seattle peers Mudhoney made the dirtier, more desperate garage rock noise. They may never have set the mainstream alight but, more than 20 years on, they haven’t lost their flailing punk edge nor irreverent humour. Plus the presence of their Phoenix forebears Meat Puppets on the bill makes this gig heaven for old punks.
Festivals: goNORTH and RockNess
Inverness and Dores
Wed 5 - Sun 9 Jun; gonorthfestival.co.uk, rockness.co.uk
The music industry heads north this week. On Wednesday and Thursday, the goNORTH festival takes over Inverness, with showcase gigs at venues across the city introducing audiences to Scottish acts such as Woodenbox, Jo Mango and The Boy Who Trapped The Sun. And on Friday, RockNess returns to Loch Ness for three days of live music from Basement Jaxx, The Vaccines, Camera Obscura and more. Look out for more goNORTH and RockNess coverage on WOW247 over the next week.

What effect does seeking asylum have on parents and their children? This is the question posed by AJ Taudevin’s Some Other Mother, which opens in Kirkcaldy on Thursday before embarking on a Scottish tour. Taudevin is an activist as well as a playwright; her recent work Chalk Farm (co-written with partner Kieran Hurley), a powerful piece about the London riots, is soon to be seen at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Festival: Eden Festival
Moffat, Dumfries & Galloway

With June now upon us, there’s barely a weekend without a festival of some description between now and September. While RockNess steals the limelight up north this week, Eden Festival offers a more alternative weekender in Dumfries & Galloway. Art: SJ Peploe
Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh

When an exhibition is on for a long time, you lose any sense of urgency and it is easy to find it is over before you have got round to seeing it. Peploe at the SNGMA has been on since November, but it ends on 23 June. It is a major show and a big event in Scottish art. If you haven’t seen it yet, you really should and if you have seen it, it is well worth a second look.
