Barton had already irked Celtic fans after dismissing the talents of club captain Scott Brown, insisting he’s a superior player to the Scottish international.
He’s now continued the verbal sparring, saying Rodgers will be under a lot of pressure to secure the title in his debut season at Parkhead, something Barton feels will be a tall task for a manager that’s yet to secure a league championship in his career thus far.

“The only thing you have to quantify that with, and I’m not trying to stir the pot, is Brendan has never won a trophy.
“He’s never won anything, so he is going to have to do stuff there that he hasn’t done before.
“Brendan is a great manager, he is a great appointment and is good for Scottish football, but second for Celtic next year is nothing.
“If Celtic finish second next year that is a bad season for them. If Rangers go into the league and finish second, not that we want to, that will be seen as progress. So the pressure is all on Celtic. They have to win the league, they have to get to the group stages of the Champions League.”
