Stars of the ’90s No 4: Dave McPherson
THE only player to have enjoyed two spells with both Rangers and Hearts, Dave McPherson began at Ibrox, winning one league title and two league cups before finding himself unwanted at the start of the Graeme Souness-led revolution.
Hearts paid £325,00 for him and, within two years, he was club captain and had begun a Scotland career which would yield 27 caps. Having become Hearts’ most saleable asset, in 1992 he made a £1.3m return to Rangers, where he helped Walter Smith’s team win a treble in 1992-93 and a league and cup double the next season.
But he was back along the M8 again in 1994.
