Butland plays down transfer talk
Despite his only first-team action coming during a loan spell with fourth-tier Cheltenham, Butland’s stock has risen rapidly since his inclusion in England’s Euro 2012 squad. The Bristol-born player has also been named in the Team GB squad for London 2012 – something that he insists has his undivided attention despite rumours circulating about his future.
“You can’t let it distract you,” he said. “It is all rumours until it becomes a necessity and it needs to happen. But for now, I am where I need to be. I need to play games at Birmingham and the rumours can carry on. They are no distraction for me.”

Hide AdThe teenager made 24 appearances for Cheltenham during last season’s stay and believes he owes a debt of gratitude to the club. “It is not often an 18-year-old goalkeeper plays in the Premier League or Championship so I knew last year I had to go out and get experience,” Butland said. “I would like to think that has helped put me in the position I am in now.”
