Villagers evacuated after land subsidence
CHINA: More than 800 villagers have been evacuated after land subsided in southern China’s Guangxi province, which is known for its karst topography – a geological formulation typified by very little surface water.
The official Xinhua News Agency said yesterday the land subsidence occurred near a middle school in Nanning city after the school dug a well to ease a water shortage. One building collapsed, another cracked and six more tilted.
