Scanners boost Sick Kids arsenal
Cancer sufferer Laura Gibson, 17 was among the first patients to be given a scan by paediatric surgeon Dr Maeve McPhillips on one of the latest ultrasound machines purchased for the Sick Kids hospital by the Sick Kids Friends Foundation (SKFF).
Two state-of-the-art ultrasound machines cost £94,000.
They will replace the equipment which was funded by SKFF back in 2000, providing much clearer and more precise imaging for gastroenterology, neurology, oncology, orthopaedics, A&E and general surgery – with more than 5700 such examinations taking place at the hospital every year.
