Truth on air duty
Dan Macdonald writes regarding the rate of air passenger duty (APD) paid by tourists flying in and out of Scotland and the retrograde effect this may have on the industry (Letters, 14 October).
Strangely enough, the latest tourism statistics seem to show that international/overseas tourism to Scotland is increasing whereas the domestic market – that is the rest of the UK, our biggest market – is falling.
In some tourism circles this fall is put down to the effect some of the wilder statements by supporters of Scotland separating from the UK is having.
Perhaps Mr Macdonald would let us have his opinion on this.
