Short shrift
Clare Short's determination to make a point (your report, 3 February) gets in the way of broader understanding. The role of the Attorney General, Lord Goldsmith, was to advise the prime minister and the Cabinet on resolutions 1441, 678 and 687. His 13-page correspondence on the legality of military action against Iraq, dated 7 March, 2003, (which I have read) is to the point, well-balanced and not misleading.
