Letter: Roads rage
In A bid to lessen their debt burden, governments across Europe are cutting down on their investment in new roads yet we in the UK seem to go on our merry way, spending millions to pacify the motoring lobby.
The recent M74 extension in Scotland's Central Belt (your reports) is reported to have cost between 131 million and 138.4m per mile. This being the case, I shudder to think what the final cost of building the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route is going to be.
Can this country really afford to be financing such schemes given the current economic climate?
