Hide AdLivingston Sheriff Court heard the only reason no-one was seriously injured was that the bus was travelling slowly.
Melrose, 22, of Bathgate, West Lothian, pleaded guilty on indictment to assault and culpable and reckless conduct which endangered life.
As he was jailed for 46 months, Melrose sniggered out loud then shouted “What? You’re kidding me.”
Sheriff Martin Edington told him: “I’ve come to the view that there’s no alternative in the public interest but to deprive you of your liberty.”
