Celebrating excellence at Scottish Home Awards
The awards highlight excellence in building, design, marketing and customer care across the house building industry and will be presented to innovative teams and companies creating city apartments, family housing and affordable flats as well as architectural masterpieces.
What’s more, companies attending in the Scottish Home Awards are contributing to the creation of an outstanding dream retreat for young cancer patients and their families which the Home Awards are continuing to support.

Fundraising for the Ripple Retreat has been well supported and the charity, set up by Lynne McNicoll four years ago, has a long history of supporting families through their cancer ordeal. “We have now raised over £1.2m for the house and fortunately we have had some tremendous support from the Scottish Home Awards. The awards help not only by raising further awareness and support from the housebuilding industry, but also through the donations received through the raffle we are providing tonight at the awards dinner.”
The charity has already received support from the homes industry. Kitchens International will supply a modern design and build kitchen dining room. Tiles are being supplied by Collinsons Ceramics. Family housebuilder Walker Group has agreed to donate £100 to the charity for every home sold in the next three years and Barratt Homes are looking at an opportunity to sponsor a family friendly structure in the grounds.
The charity is working with a contractor at present and predicting a start date for the build later this summer.
What’s more, supporters of the charity will have even more reason to celebrate tonight as Lynne McNicoll has just been appointed OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
The news comes after achieving accolades including the Scottish Institute of Fundraising Volunteer Fundraiser of the year and the City of Edinburgh Council William Y Darling Award for Good Citizenship in October 2014. Reacting to the announcement of her OBE this week, she said: “I am astonished to receive this sort of recognition; it’s a tremendous honour. I lead a unique team of volunteers, including our trustees, who have supported so many families through their cancer ordeal.
“These courageous children and their families deserve every good fortune in their lives going forward. Our gift to them will be to a short break at our Ripple Retreat. This will be a magnificent legacy for the charity, our generous supporters, and the families we have been proud to help at a difficult time in their lives.
40 families are expected to use the retreat every year for short breaks of up to seven nights each when the building is ready for residents at the beginning of next year. The central location means that children and their families will be within easy reach of hospitals, but in a tranquil and beautiful part of the world.

Hide AdThe Scottish Home Awards ceremony alternates between Glasgow and Edinburgh venues and the awards attract entries from the length and breadth of Scotland. This year a new category which rewards customer service has been introduced with a slew of entries.
The more established awards include House of the Year, Apartment of the Year, Renovation of the Year and awards for housing associations, building companies and architects.
The judges viewed stunning entries showcasing the best in Scottish design, offering solutions for sustainability and affordable housing and some individual dream homes.
The awards evening will culminate in the prestigious Housebuilder of the Year awards, which is being contested this year by Kier Homes Caledonia, MNM Developments, Quartermile Ventures Limited, S1 Developments, Snowdrop Developments and Westpoint Homes in the smaller development category; and by Barratt Scotland, CALA Group, Bellway Homes, Springfield Properties in the category open to those building more than 150 units a year.
The glittering occasion has new presenters for this year’s awards: comedian, TV and radio presenter Des Clarke and broadcaster Cat Cubie will be hosting. There is also an exciting line up of performers to entertain guests, including the Police Scotland Fife Pipe Band who are opening the event and Clanadonia who will be performing later.
