Fizz flattens as prosecco prices to rise in New Year
Paolo Lasagni, managing director of Bosco Viticultori, a major supplier of private-label Prosecco, said prices are on course to hit €2.50 per litre by Christmas, a rise of more than 100 per cent on the start of 2015 – and warned the increase could be passed onto consumers.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that a poor grape harvest had resulted in a shortage of prosecco in Italy, where the drink is made. It is believed that prosecco prices have already begun to rise in UK supermarkets.
Mr Lasagni said: “I will be curious to see what happens in the UK next year when there are new shelf price increases – entry level Prosecco will cost £5.99-£6.49.”
