Croatia to use St Andrews as Euro 2020 base

Croatia will use the University of St Andrews as a base for the country’s Euro 2020 fixtures. To mark the competition’s 60th anniversary, matches will be played in 12 cities in 12 UEFA member countries, including Glasgow and London. Zlatko Dalic’s side faces England at Wembley in their first Group D match before taking on the Czech Republic and Norway, Serbia, Israel or Scotland at Hampden, depending on which nation wins the Path C play-off. The 2018 World Cup runners-up will stay at the Fairmont Hotel on the outskirts of St Andrews and train at the university’s sports facilities. Previous teams to have made use of the facilities include Barcelona, Everton and Manchester City. The sports centre prides itself on its top-of-the-range facilities. Stephen Stewart, the university’s Director of Sport, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting Croatia this summer during their Euro 2020 campaign. “We have been hosting professional clubs and international squads for more than 15 years and we are delighted that Croatia has chosen us for their base camp. St Andrews is a truly unique destination, and one that we believe differentiates us from any other training venue in the country.” Davor Suker, who won 69 caps for Croatia and now serves as president of the Croatian Football Federation added: “We wanted to provide the squad with the best possible conditions during Euro 2020. “Therefore, we have selected St Andrews. I am convinced that this is the best solution for our squad.”
