Bride Emma Mykytyn, 44, wore a macaroni necklace, earrings and hairclip for the big day, while groom Mark Murphy, 38, had on a special pair of pasta cufflinks. And it was Mr Macaroni - the mascot for famous pasta specialists McIntosh of Strathmore - who stood beside Mark as his best man. The pair were showered with macaroni confetti following their nuptials on Saturday (May 5). And their guests enjoyed a “macaroni cheese cake” - which was carefully crafted from chocolate and jelly beans to resemble their favourite dish. The pair, who have been together for 11 years, started a food blog, Foodie Explorers, back in 2007 to share their love of food with others. Emma and Mark said “I do” in front of 200 people - many of them strangers - after they wed at a mac and cheese festival. Four years ago Mark and Emma then began Pastaval - a festival dedicated to all things mac and cheese in the South Side of Glasgow. The doting couple, from Glasgow, kept the wedding a surprise from friends and family who thought they were just going to enjoy the mac and cheese festival. Emma said: “Everyone was just enjoying the festival, there were about 200 people there, which was friends, family and just people who had wandered into the festival. “I had to sneak off to get ready and then it was announced we were going to get married. “There was a big cheer when we came round the corner to do the ceremony. “Everyone had a good laugh about it and the people who knew us were hardly surprised because it was a bit off the wall - like us.” Emma and Mark have been planning the 2018 Pastaval for a year, but it was only three months ago they decided they would tie the knot in cheesy style. Emma said: “We have been engaged for years, and every time we save up for a wedding we spent it on holidays or other things. “So about three months ago we decided let’s just get married at the festival. “It was more us, no big day, just a casual, relaxed time.” Emma, who is famous among friends for her love of mac and cheese, confessed she orders it at most restaurants to test which is her favourite. She said: “It a good comfort food, it’s homely and easy to make. “I usually order it on the menu when we are out, it’s a bit of a running joke with Mark - I always think it would be rude not to.
