The Scots posted wins over Italy in Rome and France at BT Murrayfield, losing to Ireland in Dublin and England in Edinburgh. A total of 30 individuals took part, from captain Stuart Hogg to newcomer Kyle Steyn. The Scotsman’s rugby correspondent Duncan Smith gives his verdict on the thirty players...
1. Stuart Hogg - 9/10
A testing start to national captaincy but the full-back is in the form of his life. In the absence of Finn Russell, Hogg is our shining light. Forget the slip of the fingers against Ireland. We all make mistakes in life. The fumble against England wasn’t even a mistake. Treasure that cracker of a try in Rome. It was a gold-plated beauty. Photo: Ross Parker - SNS Group / SRU
2. Sean Maitland - 8
8 Getting out of the Saracens bubble was no doubt a relief for the man who is now two caps away from a half century and has 15 Test tries to his name. The last two in that famous 28-17 win over France were perfect examples of the wing finisher’s act. Photo: Ross Parker - SNS Group / SRU
3. Huw Jones - 4
Oh Huw. You are an eternal mystery to us. One day a cockerel, the next a feather duster. The two-try hero of the 2018 Calcutta Cup worked his way back to a starting slot in the first two games before being ditched. Defensive frailty is his Achilles heel but he is a potent attacking weapon when he gets his act together. Photo: Gary Hutchison
4. Chris Harris - 7
A favourite of Gregor Townsend’s, this solid centre never lets the side down. His first Scotland start in Wales two years ago did not go well but the Carlisle-born 29-year-old has blossomed since and become a bedrock of the Scotland midfield. Photo: Ross Parker - SNS Group / SRU
